We have a summer visitor for the month of July. Ai (shortened pronunciation is I) arrived on July 8th. She is from Japan and wanted to experience life in America and learn our language well. Someone from our church in Japan contacted us and asked if we would be interested in hosting her. She started at another family’s house and will have about a month after she leaves us before she returns to Japan.
Ai is a very sweet young lady. She is a hard worker and ready to participate in whatever we are doing from cleaning, to gardening, to swimming, and everything in between!
Oh! We musn’t forget the teasing – she hasn’t been spared, not one little bit! She’s fitting in quite well!
Ai brought 2 suitcases plus her carry-ons. I’m beginning to believe that her clothes could have fit into a carry-on and the other bags were filled with souvenirs and stuff! I have begun to call her Mary Poppins because she is always surprising me with what she is pulling out of her bags!
Here she is teaching children yarn games – similar to cats cradle and others we were already familiar with.
We went to Oak Run to celebrate Jared and Jubilee’s birthdays with cousins.
Jubilee will be 8 on July 31st.
Jared turned 12 on the 13th. We picked up his ice cream cake on the way through Peoria. We couldn’t find our cooler bag so we used towels instead but it just wasn’t good enough to prevent a little melting! Oh well, they say it tasted just fine!
The next day we packaged 220 pounds of blueberries for the freezer. (Minus what we ate!) 120 pounds were for us and 100 pounds for other family. Grandma Plattner came to help.
Ai told us she wanted to learn how to play guitar so we taught her a few chords, here she is practicing with Jolene.
