Ramblings by LauraLee

Last night the children decided they wanted to watch a video we have "The Grand Canyon - Monument to the Flood." It is in VCR format and since we have been borrowing a VCR from Chad's work we were able to watch it.

I had told the children it was "over my head." Perhaps it was just too BORING - too detailed for me. I shouldn't use boring, but I had no interest in watching the video. I might add that Chad and Jared fell asleep, so perhaps I am not alone in my assessment! Or perhaps, it is just because they have the genes that fall asleep when they sit still too long in the evening!

ANYWAY ~ Javan told me this morning that the video last night was "really interesting!"

My boys are passing me up! Now I feel like the child saying "this is boring, can't we do something else?" And they are engrossed in an educational video that I as their teacher should be saying "isn't this sooo interesting!" I can hear MY science teacher, Mrs. Wiita, saying that MANY times!

I think of her often as I am engrossed in some Science that fascinates me and I think "isn't this sooo interesting!" And then I remember that when Mrs. Wiita would say it that I didn't quite agree. Perhaps I just didn't understand the material and I need to be understanding of my children if they aren't finding things interesting, perhaps it's "over their head" and I need to find a way to help them understand better so they can find interest.

I digress ~ My boys are quickly growing up and I'm being left in their dust! I already call Jesse to help with my computer or palm pilot issues! Now Javan tells me something was really interesting that I didn't have the attention span to follow!

It is a pleasure to see them grow up and even pass me by. I look forward to what they can teach me or help me with next!

The Gift that KEEPS on Giving!

Have you ever heard of a Grand~Daughter clock?

It is similar to it’s predecessor the Grand~Father clock that gongs on the hour and often on the quarter of an hour.

Here’s how it works.

You get Grandpa and Grandma to give their “Grand~Daughter” a watch for her birthday.

Make sure this is a special “Grand~Daughter” that really likes to exercise her vocal chords!

Said “Grand~Daughter” should be quite excited about her first watch.

Throughout the course of the first day you should hear comments that will keep you up to date on the time without even asking!  These comments are not quite so precisely timed as the Grand~Father clock.  Some may be as often as 5 minutes apart, but then there may be times that an hour goes by and you wonder if your new “Grand~Daughter” clock stopped working, but then the interest is renewed and you will be reminded that, YES, your new clock is still working.  I am sure that this new clock will eventually be the kind that you really like, the one that you know is there and ready whenever you should request the time.

Thank you Grandpa and Grandma for the Gift that KEEPS on Giving ME the time!!! :)

Jolene’s 7th Birthday Blog

On Sunday, Grandpa and Grandma Plattner, Uncle Kyle, and Bruce and Elizabeth Endress and their children were at my birthday party!  Grandma made a horse cake for me.  I liked it!  I like my presents, it was very fun.  And when I blogged it it was 6:06 PM.

Here I am with my Grandma and Grandpa Plattner.  I am holding up 7 fingers because I am about 7.

I got a watch for my birthday.  I like to tell the time.

Note from LL ~ The party pictures were taken by Uncle Kyle with my camera.  He wasn’t given any time to play with the settings so most of the pictures are grainy.  I included them anyway because I think he did a great job capturing some of Jolene’s expressions!  Johanna decided to wake up just in time for the party (and she wasn’t in the mood for a party)!
