Father’s Day and Birthdays with the Plattners

On Friday, June 15th, we celebrated Father’s Day and a few birthdays.

Here is Chelby enjoying her new cousin.

Grandma recently had knee surgery so she spent some time enjoying Jeremiah while she rested.

Unfortunately I didn’t have my lighting figured out before this picture and as usual, with children, I didn’t have time to correct it before they dispersed!

We are so thankful for Heather!  She is a welcome addition to our family.

Jonas birthday cake.

A little story behind this cake.  We invited Dad and Mom Plattner to join my parents and us for Mothers Day and Jonas birthday.  Mom mentioned she had a cake in the freezer she could bring for Jonas birthday but I already had a desire for a cake my Mom used to make so I said that I preferred to make the cake I was already planning.

Now you need to understand my Mother in Law to understand my thinking.  She LOVES to work in the kitchen and always says she will just grab something out of the freezer that she had made ahead.  So I had no idea that she was talking about Jonas’ birthday cake that she made ahead and froze!  I just assumed it was some dessert she had prepared for whatever occasion came up!

When she mentioned it later I felt terrible, but we were able to use it anyway!

Javan attempting to light the candles!  There was a constant breeze that helped keep us comfortable but it also hindered the candles from staying lit.

It’s nice having older responsible children now!  We haven’t done much videoing in the past few years, but I realized I can assign the job to Jesse or Javan now!!!  Smile

Jared’s (and my) birthday cake.  This is what I had chosen but then we decided to do Jared’s birthday too – his is July 15th.

Since Mom had her knee surgery she wasn’t up to making a cake and I didn’t need a cake with my name on it, so Jared agreed with the cake I chose and we put his name on it!  I chose the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups Blizzard Cake from DQ.  He chose to have some mint ice cream on the side because it’s his favorite, but it didn’t really sound good to him to have the mint ice cream cake from DQ.  I’m glad he agreed with me, it really hit the spot!

Cousins enjoying their dessert together.  Tyler was at Junior High Boys camp and Kirk’s family is still in Jamaica.

IMG_5896

I hadn’t found what I wanted for Jonas when we did his birthday the first time, so I found a big truck he would enjoy to give him when he got his cake from Grandma.

IMG_5897

Jeremiah prefers to be swaddled!  There have been times that he was fussy and Daddy was trying  to get him to sleep for me; I suggest swaddling and a moment later he will be asleep!

Grandpa really enjoys his girls!

IMG_5899

Grandpa and Grandma spent some time playing games with the grandchildren.

IMG_5901

Got you!  I got a picture with the hat over his face too, but I timed this one just right!

IMG_5906

Good pic of Mom.

IMG_5917

Johanna played too!  Smile

IMG_5918

Grandpa makes the games extra fun!

We look forward to Kirk and Keri moving back to the states in a few weeks and then they will be able to join us more often!

Singing happy birthday to Chelby.

P.S. a funny thing that happened. When I was opening my sewing kit somebody was like “it’s a lunch box” and another one was “it’s a TACKLE BOX!!!!!!!”

And after we had the Birthday we went to the Princeville Fellowship hall and we celebrated my Great Grandma Rumbold’s Birthday.

Good bye

P.P.S. I will try to post more often.

Chicken hide and seek (by Jolene)

We have been losing chickens but we don’t know what has been getting them.

Last night we went out to lock all the chickens in the hen house (some have been roosting in the barn).  When we went out to look for hens to lock up we found one on the gate and Little Girl on the wood in our barn. This morning we went out to do chores and Javan heard some scratching, then he saw the chicken’s foot below the WALL!!!!!

Here are a few pictures…

IMG_3310

Can you see the foot below the wall in the middle of the picture above?

IMG_3311

We think she was trying to get into the barn by going under and got stuck.

IMG_3312

Javan rescued our chicken (and future eggs Smile) by digging it out!

IMG_3313

Mission Accomplished!

Yes, it is still alive.

Thanks to those who serve our country

This post I copied from my Mom's blog.  My Grandpa was Gerald F. Brinker.  My Mom is Sharon.  Thanks for sharing Mom ~ this is the first time I have seen the pictures.

This monument in Zwolle, Netherlands is in honor of my father's B-17 flight crew that was shot down during WWII.  The pilot made the ultimate sacrifice by staying with the plane to avoid crashing into the town of Zwolle. Several of the crew members including my father survived but were captured and remained POW's in Germany for the remainder of the war.
