French Onion Soup

I tried this recipe recently, actually an altered version, and my children loved it. I thought I would share it with you. It is an easy throw together meal.

6 large onions, sliced
1/2 C butter or margarine
6 cans condensed beef broth, undiluted
1 1/2 t Worcestershire sauce
3 bay leaves
10 slices French bread, toasted - not enough for us
Shredded Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses

Another recipe calls for 2 T dry sherry or dry white wine
1t salt
Dash of pepper

Here is what I did

6 large onions
1/2 C butter
6-8 C water
bouillon cubes or powder (doubled recommendation per cup)
1T Worcestershire sauce
1/4 C cooking wine
1t salt
dash pepper

Cook onions in butter till tender and golden
Add remaining ingredients except for bread and cheese. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, toast bread and put on cookie sheet, top with cheese and broil till cheese melts and turns light brown. Float bread atop soup in bowls. Enjoy!
