Poison Oak

A week ago I noticed a rash on Jesse’s face and asked him about it.  He said it itched a little.  Not knowing what it was I kept him home from church that night.  By morning this is what we saw…

It definitely was bothering him by then!

His best way to find relief…

A nice bowl of COLD water!

The next day was worse but it began to improve after that.

Eyes Wide Open!

We tried putting Silver on it, but if he wasn’t dunking his head in water he was blowing a fan close to his face so it would dry out and make it worse.  We tried a couple other things as well but he preferred no topical gels or ointments.

The two worst nights he came to our room for some Ibuprofen and that helped him sleep.

Our educated guess is that he either got into it when we were hiking off trail to the rock we were going to climb on our camping trip a week previous – more on that later. He also may have contacted it when he was helping clear out the brush around the deer stand on Monday and Tuesday. We are loaded with poison ivy and he has never gotten it but if it was climbing the tree and he could have accidentally touched it and then rubbed his face. However he got it we are pretty confident that it was in the “Poison” family. We looked up pictures online and found similar effects on others.

Jesse was very blessed that it was a minor irritation!  It definitely bothered him but compared to what I read online it wasn’t that bad and only lasted a few days.  The swelling lasted longer than the discomfort but that lasted less than a week.
