Thanks for your prayers–diet update

I know some of you must be praying for us.  I have seen a huge change in my child that has required a special diet to help with learning and his emotions.  The change I’ve seen can’t be anything but answered prayer, it has been so dramatic.  I don’t know if it is healing in his body or maturity, but either way it is a blessing from the Lord!

Early in September when my Dad, Mom, and Sister were here, we went to Tanners Orchard.  If you don’t know about Tanners, it is not just an orchard, it is a destination.  Corn maze, playground, a store with gifts, fresh fruits & veggies, caramel corn, canned goodies from dips to jams, and a lunch bar.  The store sets out samples of their products to taste, including samples of their cider, and a free apple.  (On the weekends, they also have pony rides, barrel rides, and a number of other activities for children, but I’m not crazy enough to battle the crowds!)

When we got there and everyone was getting their first (of many) samples, I decided I just wanted to have a normal day without having to constantly feel bad that someone was being left out.  So against my better judgment, I decided to abandon the diet for the day and pay the punishment the next day or days.  I still limited more than I would have in years gone by, but we enjoyed the treats, including a cider donut and some cider.

I was delighted when we didn’t have any real issues the days following.  Granted, children are children and with children arise problems to deal with, but none escalated above what I would consider normal.

Since then we have continued to follow the diet but have added back one to two servings of fruit a day and an occasional dessert.

We still have issues we need prayer for.  Because he has struggled with school for so long he is used to being helped with every bit of his school but now that things are clicking I am having trouble teaching him to work independently.  For instance, he doesn’t want to write an answer to his math problem unless he gets acknowledgement from me that it is correct.  He also won’t take responsibility for his own actions.  He is improving, but for you prayer warriors, these are the areas we need the most help in.
