Nicknames!

The children thought JJ would be a good nickname for Jeremiah; when they came home from Church on Sunday they said others made the same comment.

I just thought I would set the story straight so everyone knows what Mom thinks about it!!!! 

I like to keep a child’s given name as is and not make a nickname from it. 

I don’t mind nicknames based on personality or perhaps earned through incidents in their lives.

An example I think of is when Jared was almost 2, we were at my sisters and he was barreling through like “a tank.”  My sisters friend started calling him Tank.  I didn’t mind as it fit his behavior and it wasn’t used as if we wouldn’t be calling him by his given name.

We also call Jonas ~ Buddy.  I’m not sure how it got started but a couple months ago he even said he liked it when I called him my little buddy.  He truly is my little buddy but he’s still Jonas most of the time.  Buddy is like a term of endearment.

One example I put the kibosh on!  Before Jolene was born, one of the names I had on my list was Jolie, I knew of a girl with that name and thought it was pretty!  Daddy didn’t like it.  We chose Jolene, and wouldn’t you know Jared (1 1/2) called her Jolie!  Guess who else started calling her Jolie!  That didn’t sit too well with me!  If we were going to call her Jolie why didn’t you let me name her Jolie?  She’s been Jolene ever since!

So, now you know what Mommy thinks and she has won for nearly 14 years now on this topic!
